Our F1® Austin GP Predictions

Circuit of the Americas,

Lone Star Showdown & Our F1® Austin GP Predictions

Austin race week has officially arrived, and the atmosphere on South Congress and Rainey Street is electric.

Between shopping for handcrafted leather Texas boots, soaking up live country music spilling out of neon-lit honky-tonks, and devouring world-famous Texas brisket, the United States Grand Prix is as much a vibrant cultural festival as a premier sporting spectacle.

At Senate Grand Prix, we call COTA the "Texas Silverstone" for good reason: it’s rapid, undulating, and backed by one of the world's most passionate crowds.

As always, treat our official predictions strictly for entertainment no bookies, no wagers!

We rarely get it right, and we have fun in the office with this, but dissecting the form book, tactical pressures, and driver psychology heading up that famous 41-meter hill into Turn 1 makes this ballot one of the most thrilling yet.

OUR OFFICIAL COTA RACE PREDICTIONS

1. 🥇 Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing)

2. 🥈 Sir Lewis Hamilton (Scuderia Ferrari)

3. 🥉 Charles Leclerc (Scuderia Ferrari)

4. 4th: Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes-AMG)

5. 5th: George Russell (Mercedes-AMG))

Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc

1st: Max Verstappen — The Hat-Trick Disruptor

I am backing Max Verstappen to complete a sensational hat-trick of victories, based purely on form and my love of the Flying Dutchman.

After dominating Sepang's jungle downpours and sweeping all three sessions under the Marina Bay lights, the "Flying Dutchman" is performing like a juggernaut. COTA has historically been Verstappen’s personal stomping ground, so it's a good guess :)

Charles Leclerc

2nd & 3rd: Ferrari’s Double Podium (Hamilton & Leclerc)

My next guess is that predicting a scarlet lockout of the lower podium steps plays directly into COTA’s technical DNA:

  • Hamilton Loves Austin (P2): Sir Lewis has always had a special romance with Austin, winning here five times. While Scuderia Ferrari’s pit wall hasn't been surgical, the car's underlying pace is unmistakable, which is why I am predicting two Ferraris on the podium.

  • Leclerc Backing It Up (P3): If I cast my mind back, Charles Leclerc spearheaded Ferrari’s dominant Austin 1-2 here in 2024. If Ferrari manages tyre degradation and Leclerc locks down third, it could easily happen and deliver a massive points haul for Maranello. After the rumours about Fred Vasseur departure, this will set the record straight.

Kimi Antonelli
4th: Kimi Antonelli — The Pragmatic Points Collector

Putting the 20-year-old championship leader in fourth shows deep strategic thinking, because he's driving smart and laying up points, the smartest thing a driver can do, and it shows huge maturity.

While Antonelli mathematically holds his first match point to clinch the World Drivers' Championship this weekend, every true racing enthusiast dreams of the title fight going down to the wire in Abu Dhabi.

Kimi doesn't need to risk an aggressive divebomb up the hill at Turn 1; a measured, mistake-free P4 protects his massive cushion and keeps him gliding toward history without putting the car in the barriers.

George Russell,

5th: George Russell — Defying the Texas Hex

Seeing George Russell slot into fifth is the redemption pick the paddock wants only because Russell’s season has been plagued by relentless mechanical gremlins, crashes, and looming grid penalties, testing the patience of both the British driver and Toto Wolff. But George remains an elite qualifier and a proven race winner. On a wide track with ample overtaking zones, fighting through the field to a top-five finish would be a well-deserved turning point.

So these are my predictions, and when the tyres are on, the engines are warming up, and the hill to Turn 1 is waiting to write another legendary chapter in American motorsport, you never know what the hill and Turn 1 are goign to bring and its the reason why I love this race.
