Austin Welcomes F1®'s Modern Classic
Austin Welcomes F1® to the Lone Star State
A distinct electricity hangs in the air as Formula 1® crosses the Atlantic and rolls into the heart of Texas, with our very own Simon and Mel from the Senate GP team managing the American leg of the F1® season; the office is buzzing with excitement.
Alongside Silverstone, the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) routinely tops global spectator polls as the season's finest racing weekend, and for good reason, as we at Senate HQ also feel these two races are so closely matched.
In a recent international fan vote, Silverstone edged out Austin by the slimmest of margins, 43% to 41%, cementing COTA not just as a modern classic, but as a genuine world motorsport heritage venue. Having barely reached its mid-teens since welcoming the sport in 2012, COTA has already achieved the sacred status of circuits twice its vintage.
The Turn 1 Mountain: Motorsport's Greatest Amphitheatre
Ask any driver or spectator what defines Austin, and they'll agree: the charge into Turn 1 has become a cult figure in Formula One®.
- The 41-Meter Ascent: Launching off the grid flat-out up an 11% gradient, cars plunge uphill into a blind, sweeping left-hand hairpin. The sheer elevation acts as a natural braking wedge, tempting drivers to brake absurdly late.
- The Rapid Esses: Exiting the Turn 1 crest, cars dive straight into the rapid, snake-like esses of Turns 3 through 6. Modelled after Silverstone's Maggotts-Becketts complex, it tests high-speed downforce and driver commitment to the ragged edge.
A FAN FAVORITE STATS

• Signature Feature: 41m (133 ft) blind vertical climb into Turn 1
• Track Layout: 5.513 km | 20 Turns | Fast esses, sweeping carousels & a 1.2 km straight

The Grid's Four-Way Gunfight: Who Conquers Texas?
- Verstappen's Hat-Trick Hunt: With current form, Max Verstappen could take three straight F1® victories? After back-to-back wins in Sepang and Singapore, the "Flying Dutchman" arrives with unstoppable momentum.
- The Ferrari Surge: Scuderia Ferrari took a dominant 1-2 finish here in 2024, and with their low-drag aerodynamic efficiency and supreme traction out of slow 90-degree corners, both Charles Leclerc and Sir Lewis Hamilton will be lethal down that 1.2 km back straight.
- McLaren's Avenge Mission: Lando Norris has been driving at his peak. With McLaren's compliant suspension soaking up COTA's notorious bumps and a high-downforce floor delivering through Sector 1, Norris is primed to strike back.
- Antonelli's Coronation Match Point: With a commanding championship cushion, rookie sensation Kimi Antonelli could take home the title.
- Whether it's George Russell looking to defy his recent mechanical run of bad form and win the remaining races in a capable machine with a driver who has the talent.
As this is an office favourite and an exciting week with six drivers all with a chance to win, we're as excited as anyone.
And as always, when the lights go out and the drama unfolds, here at Senate Grand Prix, there is only one winner, and that's you, the race fans!
