Christian Horner's Next Job in F1®
The departure of Christian Horner from Red Bull Racing, after a twenty-year tenure that delivered six Constructors' and eight Drivers' World Championships, continues to be the most significant off-track story of the season.
Following a reported settlement of around £75 million, Horner is now officially free to return to the Formula 1 paddock in 2026.
Christian Horner, once one of the most succsessful F1 team principals in history, return is deeply anticipated by everyone, and the rumour mill has been working overtime, linking Horner with several teams.
Still, several routes appear the most plausible, so here at Senate HQ, we have been exploring some scenarios that we would like to share with you.
1. Alpine: The Drama-Filled Legacy Project
Alpine or Renault, depending on which side of the coin you look at, has faced a challenging year with a high rate of management turnover, presenting a tempting opportunity.
- Pro: Horner has a strong relationship with Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore, and Alpine's factory is conveniently located in Enstone, near Horner's home in Oxfordshire.
- Con: Former Alpine figure Guenther Steiner has openly suggested that a Horner-Briatore partnership would "not work" as Horner wants to be more than just the team principal.
2. Haas F1: The Ownership Route
Haas F1, the most cost-effective team on the grid, offers Horner a clear path to ownership and control.
- Pro: Analysts suggest Horner could secure an ownership stake through a structured "earn-in equity package," acquiring part of the team over time.
- Con: Gene Haas has historically resisted selling the team, and even if he were to sell, Haas F1 presents a challenge due to its immense longevity, lacking the manufacturer backing of other rivals.
3. Cadillac: The Denial
The new 2026 F1 entrant, Cadillac, was a popular rumour, especially given Horner's experience in building a brand from the ground up.
However, Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss has officially shut down this rumour, stating there have been "no talks with Christian Horner" and that their full support is with current team principal Graeme Lowdon.
4. Aston Martin: The Verstappen Obstacle
While Aston Martin and owner Lawrence Stroll have the grand ambition to hire F1's most successful team principal, the issue is Max Verstappen.
Given the breakdown in relations between Horner and the Verstappen camp, it is impossible to imagine the team risking the chance of signing their ultimate prize, Max, by having Horner in charge.
It's a high-stakes, multi-million-pound game of chess, and whatever his next move is, it will undoubtedly shape a new chapter not just for him, but potentially for one of F1's leading teams.
5. But then there is another option?
Perhaps he is done, and maybe he has no desire to return to the stress, the pressure, the travel and the personal life that you have to forgo to be successful.
And as always, when the lights go out and the drama unfolds, here at Senate Grand Prix, there is only one winner, and that's you, the race fans!
