Why the 2026 Regulations are Exactly What F1® Needed

Why the 2026 Regulations are Exactly What F1 ®  Needed I have listened, and I have listened, and I have watched the new F1 ® Era!  I have to say I am happy with what I am seeing. The debate over Formula 1 ® ’s new technical era is heating up in the paddock, but let’s be honest: these radical changes are exactly what the sport needed. While purists push back against active aerodynamics and unpredictable electrical deployment strategies, the metrics on our screens don't lie.  Overtaking is up, and the racing has been nothing short of thrilling. Killing the ' Dirty Air' Monster For years, the " dirty air " aerodynamic wake ruined close wheel-to-wheel racing.  Getting stuck behind a rival meant losing vital downforce, killing your momentum, and destroying your tyres within a handful of laps.  That modern aero war had to end to protect the soul of trackside racing, and while reliability is somewhat off, what we are seeing is very interesting. George Russell's Dominance and the Papaya War

The F1® Singapore Grand Prix delivered in drama and glamour under the dazzling floodlights, and we witnessed a dominant performance by Mercedes and the usual podium suspects.

Russell's Redemption and Mercedes' Might

The night belonged to George Russell.

The British Mercedes driver qualified ahead and stayed ahead for the entire race with a faultless performance from Toto Wolff's team, with his second win of the season and a moment of personal vindication after his heartbreak in Singapore in 2023.

McLaren's Milestone, Marred by Mayhem

The biggest team celebration of the night belonged to McLaren. With Lando Norris finishing third and Oscar Piastri finishing fourth, McLaren officially secured the 2025 Constructors' Championship with six races still remaining—their second consecutive title!

However, the victory champagne couldn't thoroughly wash away the tension from the opening lap. Lando Norris made an uncompromising move on his championship rival, Oscar Piastri, elbowing past at Turn 3.

The contact between the two sparked immediate fury from Piastri over the radio ("Are we cool with Lando just barging me out of the way?"), confirming that the gloves are truly off in the Drivers' title fight.

The move helped Norris trim the championship gap to 22 points, making the final six rounds a psychological and physical battle.

Max's Defiance and Hamilton's Frustration

Max Verstappen deserves immense credit, driving brilliantly to hold off Norris for second place despite struggling with car balance issues that he reported were affecting his downshifts.

The four-time champion kept his title hopes alive, managing his position against a much faster McLaren for over an hour.

Meanwhile, it was a night of disappointment for F1® Ferrari.

After a strong qualifying, Lewis Hamilton suffered a catastrophic late brake issue, which led to him running off track multiple times, causing issues for Alonso and even bringing Ferrari's safety assessment into contention with questions being asked should they have retired car 44?.

He was hit with a five-second penalty post-race for his troubles, dropping him to eighth.

This continues the seven-time champion's agonising wait for a main Grand Prix podium in Ferrari colours.

The Singapore Grand Prix was vintage F1®: a clean-cut winner, championship-defining contact, and a massive milestone for the papaya team. The road now leads to Austin, Texas, for the next round.

And as always, when the lights go out and the drama unfolds, here at Senate Grand Prix, there is only one winner, and that's you, the race fans!
