Why the 2026 Regulations are Exactly What F1® Needed

Why the 2026 Regulations are Exactly What F1 ®  Needed I have listened, and I have listened, and I have watched the new F1 ® Era!  I have to say I am happy with what I am seeing. The debate over Formula 1 ® ’s new technical era is heating up in the paddock, but let’s be honest: these radical changes are exactly what the sport needed. While purists push back against active aerodynamics and unpredictable electrical deployment strategies, the metrics on our screens don't lie.  Overtaking is up, and the racing has been nothing short of thrilling. Killing the ' Dirty Air' Monster For years, the " dirty air " aerodynamic wake ruined close wheel-to-wheel racing.  Getting stuck behind a rival meant losing vital downforce, killing your momentum, and destroying your tyres within a handful of laps.  That modern aero war had to end to protect the soul of trackside racing, and while reliability is somewhat off, what we are seeing is very interesting. A New Age o...

Formula 1® McLaren on the Brink, and Max's Quest for Redemption

As the Formula 1® circus has officially landed at one of my personal favourite race locations in Baku, a city of winds and the setting for one of the most unpredictable races on the calendar, as RedBull & McLaren gear up for a battle, a battle that Max Verstappen is simply having fun with, after his surprise win at Monza

The four-time WDC is driving in a relaxed style, knowing he can't win, so he can drive a very comfortable race style.

McLaren's Date with Destiny

The biggest story in Baku is the very real possibility of a coronation. McLaren arrives with a mammoth 337-point lead over second-placed Ferrari. In fact, if they outscore Ferrari by nine points this weekend, they will officially secure their 10th World Constructors' Championship, a new record for winning the title with the most races remaining.

This would be a monumental achievement, a fitting crescendo to what has been an extraordinary season. The team’s dominant run has seen them claim 12 victories and 27 podium finishes so far. While they suffered a rare race-day defeat to Max Verstappen at the recent Italian Grand Prix, another 1-2 finish here would emphatically seal their place in the history books.

The Drivers' Championship: A Two-Horse Race

While the Constructors' title seems a formality, the Drivers' Championship is anything but. The internal battle between the two McLaren titans, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, is still very much alive. Piastri, last year’s winner here in Baku, holds a slender 31-point lead over his teammate with eight races remaining.

The tension between the two is palpable, with Norris publicly stating that he and Piastri are "below the team" and that the "spirit of the team is a priority.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Max Verstappen, who is hoping to bounce back from a series of setbacks and underperfomances brough on from changes of personel and very public uncerntaties are we seeing sighns of a more settled race envirnment at RedBull.

A victory at Monza was a strong reminder of his raw pace, and with a win here in Baku in 2022, he knows how to master this tricky circuit.

The drama is set to be amplified by Pirelli's F1® tyre provider decision to bring its softest trio of compounds to the race, a step softer than last year.

With a challenging circuit, a championship on the line, and the promise of unpredictable tyre strategies, all the ingredients are there for a truly unforgettable Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

And as always, when the lights go out and the drama unfolds, here at Senate Grand Prix, there is only one winner, and that's you, the race fans!
