Silverstone's Reign: Sir Lewis Hamilton

Is it just me, or will it be strange to be at Silverstone and see Lewis Hamilton wearing the Red of Ferrari?  Even seeing his loyal British race fans wearing Red is going to be odd for me to see.

As the Formula 1® circus rolls into the heart of British motorsport, the atmosphere at

Silverstone Circuit is always amazing, no matter whether it's cold, windy, raining, or even blistering sunshine - this race brings one hell of a show each year.

Hamilton has a connection with Silverstone; he holds the incredible record for the most wins at the British Grand Prix with NINE victories!

2008: The First Coronation in the Rain

Driving with McLaren in only his second season, and at his second British Grand Prix, a young Lewis Hamilton delivered a virtuoso performance in treacherous wet conditions. Starting fourth, it was a masterclass that many still hail as one of his most significant victories.

2014: The Mercedes Era Begins

After a few years of podiums and strong finishes, Hamilton secured his second Silverstone victory. This win marked the beginning of Mercedes' dominant hybrid era, and for Lewis, it was a pivotal moment with his work with Toto Wolff and the late Niklaus Lauder.

2015: Home Hat-Trick

A Young Lewis Hamilton made it two Silverstone victories in a row in front of his home crowd. Starting from pole, he led every lap and showed a dominant master class in F1® racing, bringing his total to three.

2016: The Master Strikes Again

Another year and another dominant season with another pole position at his home race, and another win for Lewis in changeable conditions.

At this race, I recall it well. Lewis has an almost Jedi-like state, which allows him to read the track and manage tricky weather, further cementing his reputation as a rain master at his home race circuit.

2017: A Grand Slam Performance

When we look back at Hamilton's career, this will no doubt be one of his glory years. He delivered a flawless weekend at Silverstone, securing a fantastic pole position, the fastest lap, and leading every lap, ultimately claiming the race victory. This season was arguably the peak of his career—a display of utter dominance. This win also tied him with great Jim Clark and Alain Prost for the most British Grand Prix victories at that time, now bringing him to five wins in Silverstone.

2019: Breaking the Silverstone Record

Hamilton's victory in 2019 saw him surpass the late great Jim Clark and Alain Prost, claiming his Sixth British Grand Prix victory and making him the outright record holder for most wins at his home race.

2020: Three-Wheeled Heroics

In the extraordinary, COVID-impacted 2020 season, Hamilton once again triumphed at Silverstone. This win, his seventh, came with incredible drama as he suffered a front-left tyre puncture on the very final lap! Despite the tyre virtually disintegrating, he limped across the finish line ahead of a charging Max Verstappen, delivering one of the most iconic and dramatic wins of his career.

2021: A Controversial Clash, A Definitive Win

Another year, another pole, and another victory – his eighth at Silverstone. This race, however, was defined by the controversial first-lap collision with Max Verstappen. Despite a 10-second penalty, Hamilton fought back relentlessly, passing Charles Leclerc to claim a hard-fought, and incredibly significant, victory that equalled Michael Schumacher's record for most wins at a single circuit (Magny-Cours).

2024: A Record-Breaking Ninth

After two challenging winless seasons for Mercedes, Sir Lewis Hamilton returned to an unpredictable win at Silverstone, which brought him to his ninth British Grand Prix victory.

This win, his first since 2021, broke his record for most wins at a single circuit and was an emotional return to form for the British icon, sparking massive celebrations among the home crowd. It was a fitting crescendo to his time with Mercedes at his beloved home race circuit.

Each race wine tells a story of skill, determination, and an unparalleled connection to his home race fans.

As we prepare for this year's British Grand Prix, the memory of these triumphs adds an extra layer of magic to the spectacle.

And as always, when the lights go out and the drama unfolds, here at Senate Grand Prix, there is only one winner, and that's you, the race fans!
