The American Dream: Cadillac Charges Towards F1 – An All-American Force of Nature
The F1 grid is set to welcome its most eagerly anticipated entry in decades!
Here at Senate Grand Prix, we've been waiting for this moment, and we extend our most sincere wishes for every success to the Cadillac Formula 1 Team. Their arrival for the 2026 season signals a monumental shift towards an all-American force of nature.
An American Headquarters, Global Ambition
Cadillac's entry is not just a branding exercise; it's a structural declaration of intent. While the team is currently using facilities around Silverstone to meet the tight 2026 development deadlines, the soul of the operation lies across the Atlantic.
- The Hub: Cadillac is building a massive, dedicated headquarters in Fishers, Indiana (part of the Indianapolis motorsport hub). This state-of-the-art facility will handle the majority of the team's manufacturing and technical operations, solidifying its identity as a fully American-led team racing under the Stars and Stripes.
- The Blueprint: This dual operation—Silverstone for immediate European logistics and Indianapolis for core development—is the blueprint for their ambition not just to participate, but to dominate.
Cadillac, backed by General Motors (GM), is not content to simply be a customer team. Their ultimate ambition is to be a whole works operation, designing and building their own Power Units (PUs).
- The Plan: Cadillac will run with Ferrari engines for the first few seasons. However, GM has officially committed to becoming an approved Power Unit Manufacturer from the 2029 season.
- The Progress: GM has already established GM Performance Power Units LLC and is constructing a dedicated engine facility in Concord, North Carolina, close to its technical centres. This long-term, multi-million-dollar investment shows that Cadillac is playing the long game—aiming to have an American-designed and built engine powering its American-led car.
The Drivers: Experience Meets Speed
Cadillac has opted for a pragmatic, highly experienced driver lineup for its inaugural 2026 season. They have eschewed the risk of a full rookie line-up, wisely prioritising development feedback and consistency:
- The Duo: Cadillac has put its faith in veterans by recruiting Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez for its maiden season on the F1 grid.
- The Rationale: Bottas, a 10-time race winner, brings invaluable experience from his time at Mercedes and Sauber, which is critical for developing a new car under the radical 2026 regulations. Perez offers proven race-winning talent and extensive experience across both front-running and midfield teams.
This driver pairing is a sensible choice, providing the technical feedback needed to identify the car's strengths and weaknesses quickly.
