Championship Takedown: Norris Seizes the Lead in Mexico
Here at Senate Grand Prix, as we return from the spectacle of the Mexican Grand Prix and watch the World Drivers' Championship flip on its head amongst a great race and an unrivalled atmosphere,
While watching Lando Norris, driving a flawless race, to seize the lead from his teammate, Oscar Piastri, confirming that the era of friendly rivalry is finally over, and maybe it's taken the calm, chilled Aussie a bit of time to understand that it's a dog fight from here on in.
Piastri's Costly Slump
The pendulum has swung violently against Oscar Piastri, which you could put down to pressure or inexperience.
The Australian had a shocking start, which is in stak contrast to his first half of the season form, dropping amid the jostling down the main straight, and spent the remainder of the race battling through the midfield, which is not going to help his cause, especially with sharks like the four-time world champion out gunning you all the time, in recent races.
The Unstoppable Hunter
Max Verstappen, despite Red Bull’s struggles with high altitude, drove a brilliant recovery from fifth on the grid to finish third.
He narrowly missed out on second place after a late Virtual Safety Car (VSC) was deployed for Carlos Sainz’s stranded Williams, which denied him a final-lap attack on Charles Leclerc, which robbed us all of a thrilling photo finish race conclusion.
His third-place finish means he is still firmly in the fight, just 36 points behind Norris, proving that he remains the relentless hunter in this championship.
So for me, keep my eyes firmly fixed on Max. If the McLaren and McLaren come together again, it will open the back door for the predator. Either way, let's enjoy it, because I can't call the final four races.
